In today’s ad-cluttered world, one powerful way to get your message out and promote yourself and your business is to write. This writing is a special format that provides valuable information. The key is to develop your material such that you establish credibility with your target customers (readers) and establish yourself as a leader in your field. Through the quality and caliber of your material you demonstrate your expertise and the readers draw the conclusion that they should buy your products and services.

This special type of writing gives value to your target customers. Often the material is how-to. You might create a checklist or frequently asked questions (FAQs) write-up. Or perhaps a short article that contains the 7 main criteria for selecting an “X” where X is your main product.

Many people offer this type of material on their Web site in downloadable form for free as promotional material—in other words as a promotion to generate goodwill and connections with the target customers. Other people offer some or all of these items for sale and this can become another profit center for you and your company.

The key is to distribute your material—get your material into the right people’s hands—your target customers. You can distribute this material via your Web site in downloadable form, via mail where a customer sends in a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope), or on location in your stores or offices.
